Inaugural Grass Court Tournament
What a day for our inaugural grass-courts invitational last Sunday (July 7th). Terrific tennis, wonderful food and refreshments, and a great bunch of people, all in beautiful sunshine. Congrats to our first ever winners LCC Tennis and runners up Sandycove Tennis & Squash Club. Huge thanks to all seven teams who joined us to raise funds for the preservation of our historic grass courts. And to play some fantastic tennis in glorious sunshine. Joining LCC Tennis and Sandycove Tennis & Squash Club were Celbridge Lawn Tennis Club, Lansdowne Tennis Club, St. Anne’s Park Tennis Club, Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club and Brookfield.
Sponsors
Thanks also to our sponsors who gave so generously to help make yesterday such a success. First up Nomadic Dairy who paid for our winners’ prizes and supplied delicious yogurts for everyone, and David Cullen Jewellers, Rathmines who engraved the prizes for free and also supplied a spot prize.
Thanks too to Martyn Evans Sports who donated our runners-up prizes of sports tops, and Wicklow Wolf Brewing Company who supplied a keg of their – much appreciated on the day! – Arcadia craft lager.
Finally thanks to our local Fallon & Byrne (Fallon & Byrne Rathmines) for prosecco, strawberries & cream and to organiser supreme Nick Kelly who not only planned and ran yesterday’s inaugural grass courts invitational but also foisted some of his own musical endeavours on our poor losing semi finalists. 😆
So a wonderful day – we really were blessed with the weather – and a fantastic event, the first we hope of many grass court invitationals. Here’s to doing it all again next year. And for many years to come.
